My First Pillowcase Dress

I think pillowcase dresses are soooo adorable. I can't wait to see Emma running around in bare feet in her pillowcase dresses. Carefree summer days will be spent just that way. I'm just picturing it: Drew, Emma, Me, Fruit Car (haha) picnic-ing, laughing, and enjoying time together.
I think for this dress we will embroider it with LSU (of course, I'm sure you could figure that out with the color choice) on the dress and Emma's name on the ribbon. I think I'll even hide a little monogram on the lining maybe with a little tiger paw print. How sweet that will be.

Sewing on the ruffle. I got this pattern from Melissa at A Little Loveliness

Yay, Mary Beth! I'm so glad you made Emma a pillowcase dress! And now, if you make another, it will go much quicker because you will already know what to do. To get more fullness for the ruffle, the strip of fabric you use just needs to be longer. For the ones pictured on my blog, I made the fabric strip twice the measurement of the bottom of the dress. That allowed for a nicely gathered ruffle, but you can make that strip even longer to have the ruffle more tightly gathered. You can sew strips together to get the length you need. Is this making sense? Adding a ruffle makes the sewing process more time consuming, but it does give the dress a nice fullness. Let me know if this still sounds confusing!

What a pretty little dress! I love how you did your own take on LSU colors. I'm stopping over from SITS today, and am glad to be here. I'm in Louisiana, too, and growing up I was called Marybeth. That just struck me as funny. I go by Mary now, and am also not cute or blond. Love your blog!

I think this dress is so adorable. Melissa (the first commenter on this post) has a great pattern on her sight. She's great!!! She's helped me with a few pointers that I've asked her for too. I'm a tiger through and through, Vindiciti, so of course my first one had to be purple and gold.
Nickel Pickle - you got our coach...ahhhh! hahaha.. j/k It's good to see another southern mama on here!!! Welcome!
